04.29.2008 - Stimulus Check

How cute are those love bats? I found them in blacklilys' etsy store, and I'm in love with everything else she's selling. I wish I had the money to send some her way!

Thursday is the day that my Etsy store will officially launch, if all goes as planned. I've been so anxious and ready to get this ball rolling for quite some time now, but life has just been getting in my way. Work sucks the energy out of me, bills suck the money out of me, and errands and sleep take up a large portion of my free time. Give me a break to do what I really want to do, life!

I wish I had a better camera to take pictures of everything, but my old, crappy camera will just have to do for now, until I can afford a better one. Maybe I'll get one if I get enough with that extra stimulus check comes to me with a reasonable amount printed on it.

I've been wanting to get a half-sleeve for a while, so that's probably where the majority of that money will go, especially since it's been about a year 1/2 since my last tattoo. I've got three more small ones I want, but I really want to get the sleeve out of the way, since it's what I'm most excited about. ;)

Where is your stimulus money going?

04.28.2008 - My Love for the Bearded Ones

I don't know exactly what it is, but there's nothing I love more than a man with a full beard. About 95% of the men I'm strongly attracted to have them. Why would I want a man that's clean-shaven? Their stubble just gives me a rash around my mouth when I kiss them too hard, and if I really wanted someone that's truly clean-cut, I'd just date a girl. (Girls are great in their own right, but I'll save that topic for another post.)

Maybe it's because growing up, my dad (see right photo) always had a beard. I've always known him with a beard, and my dad is a very masculine, broody sort of man. There's not an ounce of femininity in him, really. He works outside all day as a crane operator through the heat, cold, sun, and rain - and never complains about his work. His motto and only piece of advice to me has always been "Work hard, save your money." Maybe beards, for me, signify stability, comfort, control, and agility.

However, I'm not completely comfortable with that idea, because it's a little too Freudian for my taste. Hrmm...

I think what I like most about beards is that they're a lot like shoes. You can tell a lot about a man by his beard. A man's personality is reflected in his beard (or lack thereof). You can guess his age, determine what his sense of humor is like, what his hobbies are, etc. I swear! Next time you're looking at a stranger with a beard, make a couple predictions about his hobbies (Does he climb rocks? Does he frequent the indie record store in the trendy part of town? Or does he just work in the cold?), and then strike up a conversation with him. You might be surprised at what you find!
(For the record, Damon's beard was removed on Friday, but I love him for more than just his facial hair.)

04.27.2008 - Introducing...Robotosaurus!

Hello all!

I created this blog to correspond with my Etsy store, even though it's not completely finished. I haven't put anything up for sale yet because I've had some major setbacks lately. I've been trying to save money to move out of Charlotte with my boyfriend, Damon, so I haven't been able to buy the materials I really need to get going as of late.
My store name is Robotosaurus! because, naturally, I love robots and dinosaurs, and I think the name is colorful enough to represent my little creations.
I've got TONS of sketches for the opening line of pillows I'm going to make, but that's about as far as some of them have gotten. I've gotten three completed so far, along with a painting (and believe me, paintings aren't my forte, but I'm trying my hand at it occasionally anyway), and a box I painted. Damon is much more of a painter than I, and with that, he's starting his own branch of a business as well.
Eventually, we're going to collaborate and join our forces together for one business, but for now, I think it's a better idea that he does his thing and I do mine, and we help each other out when we can. Right now, we need to concentrate on creating our own styles and feeling them out before we make some compromises to work together. It'll happen one day though!
He's such a great artist. The paintings he does really blow me away sometimes. At the moment, he's selling boxes through his ebay store. Check them out!
My ultimate goal is to one day, own a store with handmade pillows, t-shirts, stuffed animals, boxes, paintings, and other art and knick-knacks with Damon...and I also want a dog grooming salon in it!
I have a passion for animals, and right now, my full-time job is at an animal hospital, where I work in the kennel and am a dog bather. I love it. I'm going to dog grooming school in the next few months, after we move, and I am so excited! I have an American Eskimo dog named Nugget Salad, and she's basically my baby and my mascot. She's way spoiled, but that's what babies are for, no?

As far as the current state of my Etsy store goes, I started taking photos of one of the pillows I've made and those photos turned out well, I suppose, but then it started raining outside. Gee thanks, sky! Obviously, today was not meant to be the day for me to begin listing. It'll happen sometime this week for sure.

And just to let everyone know, not all my posts are going to be this boring, I promise. Introductions are always pretty lame, right? :)
I plan on making a theme for the content each entry, and obviously, I'll keep everyone posted on the new and exciting things Robotosaurus(!) has in store for everyone!

(Oh, and I'm new to blogspot and don't know all the ins and outs and how everything works here, so advice is always welcome. Lovelove!)
